Get outdoors this winter with NC Sustainability.

NC Sustainability invites you to enjoy the wonders of winter with their new hiking series: Hiking Niagara.

For one Saturday each month, NC staff, faculty and students can participate in a two-hour guided hike along a local trail. Hiking Niagara offers an opportunity for participants to explore the outdoors while learning about the different hiking sites, birdwatching, local history, geography and more.

“Part of what we try and do is get students involved in their surrounding environment, so they can better understand the impacts that human activity has on it,” said Amber Schmucker, NC Sustainability Support Staff. “We also simply want to give students the tools to be outdoors and connect to nature at anytime of the year.”

By participating in a Hiking Niagara walk, NC students can receive credits towards their co-curricular records.

While registration is not requited, NC Sustainability encourages participants to RSVP for their preferred hike on the College’s Get Involved portal. While all different, each hike is beginner level hike and will slightly advance in difficulty each month.

Participants are encouraged to dress in layers and wear weather appropriate clothing including comfortable shoes, hats, and mittens.

“I also recommend bringing water and a snack. Also, a camera is never a bad idea! The landscape in the winter can be quite stunning,” said Schmucker.
