Have you considered hosting an international student, but are worried about the long-term commitment?
New short-term opportunities to participate in the Homestay program are available for NC employees in 2019.
Students from around the world will be studying at NC through the College’s global university and college partnerships. The College will welcome the first short-term group of international students for its Winter English program from January 14 to February 8. Students from South Korea, Vietnam and Brazil will experience Canadian culture while enhancing their English language skills.
During their studies, students will live in Welland with local families as part of NC’s Homestay program. Experiencing the lifestyle of a local family helps international students become immersed in Canadian culture. At the same time, the experience serves to create a more globally and culturally engaged community.
The Homestay program is a learning opportunity for students as well as full-time and part-time employees and their families. Participants further develop their global competencies and intercultural skills – and, in the case of Homestay families, they do so without leaving the comforts of their home.
Becoming a short-term Homestay family is an opportunity for those who are not able to commit to the full duration of the Homestay program. Host families are compensated $750 per month for their involvement.
By welcoming an international student into your home for the winter term, you will invite exposure to new experiences and a new world view. By sharing your culture with a student from across the world, you can help make their experience at NC a remarkable one. Friends and neighbours who live in Welland are also welcome to apply for this unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Welland residents who are interested in participating in NC’s Homestay program for the upcoming winter term are encouraged to submit an online application by using the following link: international.niagaracollege.ca/forms/host-families/
