Niagara residents have a chance to up their entertaining game this holiday season, thanks to a roster of holiday-themed workshops offered by the College’s Part-time Studies division.

Brand new this year is a Holiday Cocktails course, where participants will learn the fundamentals of what makes a great tasting cocktail, how it’s prepared, and the history of the ingredients being used. Hands-on demonstrations of holiday-favourite cocktails will have participants serving up a storm this holiday season.

The workshop will be lead by Andrea Fujarczuk, wine judge, writer and lecturer, and a graduate of the College’s Winery and Viticulture Technician program. Fujarczuk, along with her husband, is also preparing to open a new distillery in Ontario’s Muskoka area.

“We’ll learn the origins of cocktails, the importance of the balance in each drink, and help you customize signature drinks and impress your guests while you celebrate with friends and family this holiday season,” said Fujarczuk.

The course will be held Thursday, Dec. 6, and is open to anyone over the age of 18 with a keen interest in crafting drinkable holiday treats. Register online.

The Holiday Cocktails workshop is the latest addition to the Canadian Food and Wine Institute’s (CFWI) holiday-themed part-time training options offered to the public. Other available workshops include the Holiday Cheer Baking, a one-day course teaching participants how to make perfectly crafted holiday cookies, and Holiday Hors D’Oeuvres, in which participants learn to prepare and freeze homemade holiday appetizers.

“The Canadian Food and Wine Institute houses programs, facilities, and expertise that are truly unique and exceptional,” said CFWI dean Craig Youdale.  Our Part-Time Studies here at CFWI is the opportunity for our community and region to experience what our students experience each and every day.”
