Smart farming the way of the future

Niagara This Week highlighted how precision agriculture at Niagara College got a boost from the federal government on November 5.

Reporter Richard Hutton attended an announcement at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus that day by the Hon. Kirsty Dunan, Minister of Science and Sport, who spoke of  $45 million in new funding through the College and Community Innovation Program and the College and Community Social Innovation Fund. Niagara College received $94,000 that will help advance the College’s precision agriculture strategies to help small- to medium-sized enterprises.

The article showcases the RoamIO, an advanced rover unveiled at the event as a result of the new funds. RoamIO is outfitted with sensor capabilities to monitor weather and temperatures, and ultimately yield estimations in a vineyard.
