Coverage of a Niagara College initiative that has positively impacted the community for more than 20 years, has earned special accolades for a local cable television channel, YourTV Niagara.
YourTV Niagara has won a 2018 Star Award in the Community Impact category for its coverage of Niagara College’s Many Hands Project, produced by manager, Programming and Community Relations, Jack Custers. The award was based on coverage of NC’s 2017 Many Hands Campaign at Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre.
Custers noted that Community Impact is the main category of the awards, which reflects how Cogeco has benefited a community either independently or with a community partner. “It is the final award for the evening, like Best Picture at the Oscars,” he said.
The award was presented at Cogeco’s 15th annual Star Awards. Held in Peterborough on June 20, the ceremony honoured the achievements of YourTV’s teams who produce local television across the province. The programs created by YourTV staff, in partnership with local volunteers, aim to showcase what matters to each of the local communities that Cogeco serves.
“Niagara College applauds YourTV Niagara on the achievement of a Community Impact Star Award, and we thank YourTV Niagara for its dedication to covering this wonderful applied learning initiative at Niagara College,” said vice-president External Relations, Greg Medulun. “As we encourage students from across our spectrum of programs to apply their skills to make a difference in the community, we recognize YourTV Niagara’s vital role in spreading the news about these positive initiatives.”
YourTV Niagara, a division of Cogeco Connexion, is the property of Cogeco Comunications which operates 36 community television stations in Quebec and Ontario.
