One for the books- Niagara College collects donations for Books for Africa

Staff and students know all about the vital role that books can play in getting a quality education; sadly, not everyone can afford the privilege of buying new and important reading materials. Niagara College wants to change that reality through their yearly book drive for the charity Books for Africa.

Books for Africa is an organization which collects, sorts, ships and distributes reading materials to students of all ages in Africa. Niagara College has hosted this drive for almost 10 years now, continuing to do its part in making education more accessible through literacy. As a result of the College’s hard work, the organization has been able to raise over 38 million book donations so far.

“At first, getting donations can be hard because of (summer) enrollment,” said Matt Bohun. Bohun is the marketing library technician at the NOTL campus and is running the drive this year, “but once the ball starts rolling, we tend to get more (donations) than we expect.”

Those interested in helping this year’s Books for Africa drive are encouraged to bring their donations to the main desk of either the Welland or NOTL campus libraries. Niagara College began collecting books on June 1st and will continue to do so until June 6th. Come on out to help change the world with your contributions- one chapter at a time.
