I am tremendously proud of the fact that Niagara College is a long-time supporter of the Rankin Cancer Run.
Each year, it’s heartwarming to see so many members of our College’s senior administration, staff and faculty, as well as students and retirees represent our college at this special run/walk that encapsulates the meaning of ‘community,’ raising much-needed funds for cancer support in the Niagara region.
This is a true ‘made in Niagara’ event and all money raised through the annual fundraising run/walk stays right here in Niagara to support the fight against cancer. It’s important to note that the event is run by unpaid volunteers who do not receive a salary from any entity.
During the past 11 years, the Rankin Cancer Run has raised more than $6.5 million to support those with cancer in Niagara. Last year was a record-breaker, raising a $1 million.
Once again this year, the Niagara College community has an opportunity to join together to make a difference on the 12th anniversary of the Rankin Cancer Run. I strongly encourage our College community to continue our tradition of showing our NC spirit by participating as part of our College team.
This year’s run will be held on May 27 (beginning at 10 a.m.). Kicking off at the Grantham Lions Club (732 Niagara St.), participants can opt for the 1-km or 5-km route that takes place in the Port Weller area of St. Catharines. It’s a family experience, so bring your children, grandparents, friends. Strollers, wheelchairs and leashed dogs are welcome.
Niagara College will have a tent on site as a gathering place. Free food will be provided after the run along with entertainment and activities. So many schools and clubs bring tents and banners for their teams and I encourage participants to show their NC pride!
The run/walk begins at 10 a.m. and the morning will wrap up with a closing ceremony, entertainment and free barbecue at 11:45 a.m.
To register, please visit the College’s Rankin Run Team website here. Organizers are asking participants to register before May 8 to be a part of the College’s t-shirt order.
Those who are unable to run or walk on May 27 may still get involved by sponsoring the NC team. To donate, visit the team’s website here, and click the ‘Sponsor Us’ tab for details.
