It’s a week-long burst of youth entrepreneurship activity across the region and Niagara College students have an opportunity to be a part of it all.

Led by Niagara College’s entrepreneurship hub, ncTakeOff, and Brock University’s BioLinc, Entrepreneurship Week, (#EWeekNiagara) will be held from April 3 to 9, featuring pitch competitions, networking events, makerspace open houses, and more. In 2016, its inaugural year, hundreds of youth in Niagara attended various events and leveraged opportunities to advance their business ideas.

One of the highlights of the week will be Pitch Perfect. The event, presented by ncTakeOff and Meridian Credit Union, is a  a pitch competition for early-stage student-led companies. Participants have the opportunity to refine their business pitch, connect with investors, and enter to win $3,000 in cash as well as in-kind business start-up services. The competition is open to anyone registered as a current student at any postsecondary institution. Part of the Ignite Pitch Series, the event will be held on April 4, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the College’s Welland Campus (AH 141).

ncTakeOff project manager Rachel Crane noted that when the event was first held in 2016. it drew eight companies, with one or two students per team.

“This year’s Pitch Perfect is going to even more exciting than the last as ncTakeOff has linked in with the Ignite Pitch Series, sponsored by Meridian Credit Union,” said Crane. “Among the many opportunities that this event presents, student entrepreneurs can now compete for more in cash prizes and automatically advance into the Niagara-wide Ignite Pitch Competition.”
