The hallways may be empty and offices may be quiet, but employees working alone after regular hours can rest assured that they are safe, thanks to the College’s Work Alone program.
Aimed at enhancing personal safety, the Work Alone program – offered by Campus Security – is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to employees who work alone or after regular business hours. In addition to having regular check-ins with security staff, employees may request a campus security guard to accompany them to their vehicles, a bus stop on campus property, or to other campus buildings.
While the service is not new, Campus Security would like to increase awareness of the option among college employees, particularly during the summer months when the campus is not as populated as usual.
“Personal safety is a priority at Niagara College and we are pleased to offer the Work Alone program to our employees,” said David Jastrubecki, manager of security and parking services. “Employees should feel safe no matter what time of day they are working, and we encourage all college employees who work after hours to make use of this service for their safety and peace of mind.”
How it works
To request the service, visit Campus Security or call 905-735-2211 ext. 6999, or use the NC Mobile Safety App.
Employees must provide information including their location, and how long they expect to be working. The Security Control Centre operator will check in every hour by phone, or dispatch a security guard to visit in person.
Those who request the service must call the security control centre operator before leaving campus.
If employees do not respond to calls by the operator, a message will be left and a campus security guard will be dispatched. If the employee is not located, the operator will contact the employee’s emergency numbers.
