Niagara College’s Leadership, Exploration and Development (LEAD NC) Co-Curricular program launches in November and runs to early April. The Centre for Student Engagement and Leadership explains what the program is, what it will offer students, and how to nominate a student for the program.
A message from the Centre for Student Engagement and Leadership:
Piloted in 2013 via the MCU PIF funding, LEAD NC (Leadership, Exploration and Development) is a co-curricular leadership development program designed to offer students from any academic area the opportunity to explore and further develop leadership skills within three key themes: iLEAD Myself (individual growth), iLEAD My Team (group development), iLEAD My Community (community values). The LEAD program officially launched in 2014 with student representation from over 50 academic programs.
The LEAD NC program aims to value add to our students’ core academic experience in order to further foster the growth and development of our students with the tools, knowledge and experience that will make them leaders not only at Niagara College, but in our community, as alumni, and through their careers.
Through the workshops, speaker, and experiential learning opportunities involved in LEAD, students will challenge themselves and each other, bring out their personal best and develop the skills to affect change and bring out their inner leader.
Through a three-pillared approach of workshops/speakers/leadership experience, this program offers students a fantastic opportunity to gain a competitive edge, valuable leadership skills and experience, and develop their resumes and portfolios.
The LEAD program aims to develop students’ leadership skills while enhancing the career-focused, hands-on academic training they receive in their program of study. Successful students will earn a LEAD Leadership credential on their Co-Curricular Record (CCR) through participation in the program.
The nomination period runs from Oct 1 until Nov 1. The Co-Curricular LEAD program launches in November and runs through early April.
NC faculty and staff are encouraged to consider nominating a student or multiple students for the LEAD program. To nominate a student for the LEAD program, please forward the student’s name, contact information to Carolyn Finlayson, student development and engagement program coordinator, [email protected] by Nov. 1.
