NC’s Autism and Behavioural Science graduate certificate program has launched its first annual QR Code Hunt for Autism Awareness.

The event marks Autism Awareness Month during the month of October. Terry Poirer, Autism and Behavioural Sciences coordinator, and faculty-educational Assistant, Special Needs Support program, said the hunt was organized as an interactive way to raise awareness among students and staff about autism and the College’s Autism and Behavioural Sciences program.

“We often don’t get enough information about autism and this QR Code Hunt will help dispel some myths, as well as generate awareness about the ABS program,” he said. “The incidence rate continues to increase in Canada for Autism Spectrum Disorder and there is an increasing demand for professionals in the field.”

NC staff and students are encouraged to visit the Autism Ontario booth on Wednesdays at the NOTL and Welland campuses on the following dates:

* Wednesday, October 2: Welland Campus, Cafeteria Foyer, near microwave;

* Wednesday, October 9, NOTL Campus, Cafeteria Foyer, near vending machines;

* Wednesday, October 16, Welland Campus, AHI Foyer, centre area; and

* Wednesday Oct 30, NOTL Campus, Cafeteria Foyer, near SAC notice boards.

Participants can find and scan the ABS QR codes around campus to raise their awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder and to be eligible to win prizes.

Weekly and end of month prizes include Echo Smart pen, Tim Horton’s gift cards, Wal-Mart gift cards, Chartwell’s gift certificates, Benchmark gift certificates and more.
