Message from Dan Patterson: A special week for Niagara College

Dan PattersonAs you know, it’s been a very special week for Niagara College. Over the past weekend, thousands of prospective students, parents and neighbours toured our Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake Campuses during our Spring Open House, and on Tuesday night, Niagara College made it into homes across Canada through our very successful appearance on CBC’s Rick Mercer Report.

Our Open House was a great success, and I would like to extend my thanks to the faculty and staff who went above and beyond to welcome our guests, run information sessions, answer questions, and present interactive displays that highlighted the unique NC approach to applied education that creates unparalleled student experiences. The efforts shown on Saturday to showcase all the programs and services we offer to students demonstrates once again your dedication and pride for Niagara College.

I hope you were able to watch our appearance on the Rick Mercer Report on Tuesday night – whether at home or at viewings at the Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake Campuses. This was a wonderful opportunity to share our unique Teaching Winery and Brewery story with viewers across Canada, and I thank the students, staff and faculty who represented Niagara College so well. If you missed it, you can view the segment online here.

Both of these events raised our profile substantially, here in Niagara, throughout Ontario, and across Canada. As our population ages and high school enrolments decline, postsecondary education is becoming more and more competitive. Our continued growth and success at Niagara College truly depends on our ability to distinguish ourselves among other postsecondary options, and to clearly position NC as a leader in applied education and a top choice for those who seek career success.

To those of you who worked so hard to tell the Niagara College story at our Open House, through the Rick Mercer Report taping, or through your everyday interactions with students, prospective students, parents, and community partners, your efforts are appreciated. Attracting new students and growing our enrolment ensures a strong vibrant future for Niagara College, and for the Niagara region.

One of our brand promises is to create a welcoming and friendly environment and this weekend is a great example of how we accomplish this.

Thank you once again, and best wishes for an enjoyable Easter weekend.
