To ensure that Niagara College is a place of mutual respect that supports the health and well-being of students, employees and visitors, smoking and vaping is only permitted in designated areas of campus. All other areas on campus continue to be smoke free.

Designated Smoking Areas

Designated Smoking Areas (DSAs) on campus are sheltered, well-ventilated, and clearly marked with signage. They contain combustible waste receptacles for proper disposal. They are also indicated on campus maps: niagaracollege.ca/wellandparkingmap and niagaracollege.ca/notlparkingmap.

These spaces ensure that those who choose to smoke or vape do so in accordance with provincial and municipal laws and regulations and protect non-smokers from exposure to second-hand smoke and vapor.

Welland Campus DSAs:

  • Edge of A2 parking lot near the Athletic entrance
  • South entrance to the Simcoe building
  • South-East corner of the Technology building
  • South-West side of the Campus Residence

Daniel J. Patterson Campus DSAs:

  • Edge of the East parking lot near the East Wing entrance
  • South-East side of the Campus Residence

Signage has been installed in areas of non-compliance, and security personnel will continue to remind those who smoke or vape in non-designated areas to move to a DSA. Regional By-Law Officers will also begin to educate and enforce smoking and vaping violations on campus. There are significant fines associated with non-compliance.

New Regional By-Law and cessation support

To protect children and vulnerable persons from exposure to second-hand smoke and vapor, the Niagara Region has updated Niagara’s Smoke and Vape-Free Outdoor Spaces By-Law to prohibit the use of tobacco, cannabis, and vaping products from being smoked or vaped in public spaces.
