As part of Niagara College’s commitment to providing a safe learning environment, a key college information channel is NC Alert – a free opt-in service which provides urgent safety notifications from the College to students, staff and faculty in real-time via text message and/or email for those who opt-in. This builds upon feedback we received over the past several months about the consistency of this service which we’ve worked to resolve to ensure staff, faculty and students stay informed about urgent events.

NC Alert ensures that staff, faculty, students and visitors are informed of urgent events in a timely and effective way and provided with directions on how to safely respond.

To receive these urgent alerts, you must opt-in. Registration is easy and can be completed online at niagaracollege.ca/uns or by texting “SUBSCRIBE NCALERT” to 22898, and following the prompts in the opt-in message that follows. Standard message and data rates may apply.

NC Alerts allow subscribers to receive messages via phone, SMS test message, and/or email about events happening on campus like school closure due to inclement weather, active threat situations, and more. Standard message and data rates may apply.

How do I subscribe?

  1. Go to niagaracollege.ca
  2. Log in using your O365 credentials (email and password)
  3. Select “Oracle – Employee Self Service”
  4. Select “Urgent Notification Contact Information”
  5. Enter your contact information for voice call, text message and email address. If you do not want to receive alerts via a certain method, simply leave that box blank.
  6. Click “Save”
  7. You will receive two (2) SMS text messages – one from NCALERT and one from NCBB (NC Blackboard, alerts from professors via Blackboard Learn).
  8. Follow the SMS instructions to confirm your subscriptions. NCALERT and NCBB are separate subscriptions. Only send a confirmation text for the subscription(s) you want.
  9. You are now subscribed to NC Alert.

How many messages will I receive?

NC Alerts are used only for urgent and/or safety-related notifications from the College, such as campus closures (i.e. due to inclement weather) or urgent security announcements, including fire alarms, active threat situations, and shelter-in-place.
