Pathstone Mental Health has been selected as the 22nd recipient of Niagara College’s Many Hands project. The annual project sees Niagara College students support a local community non-profit organization with fundraising, marketing and public awareness of the agency.

Throughout the 2018/2019 academic year, students in NC’s Event Management (Graduate Certificate) program as part of their studies will plan, manage and host four unique events to support Pathstone, including a vintage-themed music trivia night, a comedy evening, a designer-purse bingo event and a wellness event that pairs yoga with mimosas.

“We are grateful that students from the Many Hands Project felt connected to the needs at Pathstone Mental Health. As a result, we will be able to better equip our young clients with the tools they need to cope with their struggles,” said Kim Rossi, director of philanthropy and public relations at the Pathstone Foundation. “We are a small foundation, so community hands and hearts are vital to us in raising much-needed funds for our programs and services. We look forward to supporting the number of events NC students will host in the coming year.”

Agencies that benefit from the Many Hands project, selected by the project committee, must be not-for-profit, provide community-based services in Niagara, and must be willing to commit agencies resources to the project. Funds raised through this year’s Many Hands Project will help provide program supplies for a unique art-based play therapy program Pathstone provides for children. By utilizing art therapy, the program gives the children the freedom to express their worlds and feelings in a safe and artistic way.

“The Many Hands Project is an excellent example of experiential learning infused into the classroom. The experiences students gain help them to prepare for their career while also helping local Niagara charities achieve their goals,” said Christine Blane, NC professor and Event Management program coordinator.

Ashley Dykun is a student in the Event Management program. “The integrated learning achieved through the Event Management program offers us a unique opportunity to be apart of positive change,” said Dykun. “As students, through the Many Hands Project we have the ability to create an impact in the community, and with the funds raised, Pathstone can continue to foster a nurturing environment for children, youth and their families who have been impacted by mental health issues.”
