Mid-Term Check-In (Weeks 9–10)

There are always ways in which we can improve what we are doing or to learn how to do the same things more efficiently.

Are you ready to implement a new studying strategy?

Check Important Dates for the Term

  • Review the upcoming key dates by following the link below.
  • If you are struggling with a course, reach out to your Academic Advisor or ISA to discuss supports and other options.
  • Do NOT drop any courses without consulting with your Academic Advisor or ISA first, this may affect your funding eligibility or your visa status, if you are an international student.

Meet With Your Academic Advisor or International Student Advisor (ISA) to Review Your Current Grades

You are back from the break and starting the second half of the term, it is important at this point to assess where you are in your courses. You can find in the link below the instructions on how to check your grades. We would also like to encourage students to reach out to their instructors for any clarification on their grades or on further assignments.

Students who have questions about their average or academic standing are encouraged to make an appointment with their Academic Advisor or ISA .

Identify Areas for Improvement

It is important at this point to think about your performance in each of your courses. Here are some questions to ask yourself to help you with this exercise.

  • Have you been submitting assignments on time?
  • Have you been taking notes in class?
  • What are the strategies that you have been applying when taking tests?
  • How long in advance have you been studying for tests?
  • Have you accessed the resources in the library regarding citations and research?
  • How would you consider your commitment when working in a small group?
  • Have you been attending classes consistently?
  • Have you taken the time to go over the feedback provided by your instructors?

Need to Drop a Course?

Things to consider:

  • After 10 business days, up to and including the date which is 2/3 the duration of the course, students can drop with a ‘W’ (withdraw) grade. Courses with a ‘W’ grade are not included in your Grade Point Average. Additional rules for dropping a course can be found in the link below.
  • If you do not drop a course on or before the correct date, you will be assigned a final grade for the course.  Final grades will become part of your student record and will remain on your transcript. Requests to remove these grades because you were not attending will be denied.
  • Please note that dropping a course may impact your OSAP funding.
  • International students should take extra care when dropping courses as it may have an impact on their student visas. It is highly recommended that all international students make an appointment with their International Student Advisor before they drop any courses.

Any student who feels unsure about dropping a course and how it may impact their future studies are encouraged to make an appointment with their Academic Advisor or International Student Advisor.
