Welland Campus Fall Closure: Oct 27-29, 2026

From October 27 to 28, 2026, Niagara College’s Welland Campus will be closed for major upgrades to the electrical infrastructure. The project includes the installation of a new transformer to provide the additional capacity needed to power campus as construction on the new Health Education Building is underway.

October 29 has been reserved as a contingency day to allow for any unforeseen delays or additional work required to complete the upgrades.

This work builds on improvements completed in the spring and is an important step towards advancing our Sustainability Plan and carbon reduction goals. These investments will strengthen both NC’s long-term operational and environmental performance while enhancing the electrical capacity needed to support future campus projects.

The dates (during mid-term break week) were selected in consultation with academic departments and based on contractor availability to minimize disruption. Completing the work before winter is also essential to ensure construction of the Health Education Building remains on schedule so that we remain on track to welcome new students.

To ensure everyone’s safety, campus access will be unavailable while the work is underway. Campus doors will be locked, and exterior power and lighting in parking lots will be limited. Please take any materials or belongings you may need with you on October 26, before the doors are locked at midnight.

Impacted Areas Include:
  • Simcoe, Secord, Merritt, Voyager, Applied Health, Athletics, Pavilion, WAMIC/Rankin, parking lot and exterior lighting.
  • Residence will remain open, with power supplied by a temporary generator.

Students should check Brightspace for program-specific information about adjustments to academic programming during this time. WC support services may be available via alternate delivery, and students can continue to access in-person support and services at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Remote work will continue for WC employees, and the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake is unaffected and will remain open.
