Overview

Program Overview

The Electrician Trade is an exciting career choice with many opportunities for specialization. A Construction and Maintenance Electrician lays out, assembles, repairs, maintains, connects and tests electrical fixtures, apparatus, control equipment and wiring in various residential and commercial buildings. Employment in this trade could include full-time, seasonal or a project-by-project basis type of work, or you can be self-employed.

An employed signed apprentice, in the Electrician trade, may continue their in-school Apprenticeship Training at Niagara College. Upon completion of all levels of the Electrician – Construction and Maintenance apprenticeship, they can seek provincial certification for a Red Seal Certificate of Qualification.

Pre-Apprenticeship Training Programs offered by Niagara College are fully funded by the Government of Ontario. These programs are designed to support participants entering the apprenticeship system and help prepare them for this step. Pre-apprenticeship programs are offered on a year to year basis upon funding approval by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. Successful applicants are required to undergo selection criteria as outlined by the Ministry.
