Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) STARS
Niagara College proudly joined The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) in July, 2011.
AASHE is helping to create a brighter future of opportunity for all by advancing sustainability in higher education. By creating a diverse community engaged in sharing ideas and promising practices, AASHE provides administrators, faculty, staff and students, as well as the business that serve them, with leadership and essential knowledge resources, opportunities for professional development, and a unique framework for demonstrating the value and competitive edge created by sustainability initiatives.

Sustainability Tracking and Assessment Rating System (STARS)
One of AASHE’s flagship programs is the Sustainability Tracking and Assessment Rating System (STARS). The STARS program is a transparent, self-reporting framework designed specifically for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance. The STARS program is an instrumental tool for the Office of Sustainability to track our progress moving forward.
Niagara College first received a STARS Bronze Rating in recognition of our sustainability achievements in October 2013. Not only was this achievement a win for sustainability on campus, earning a bronze rating for sustainability satisfies one of the core Strategic Plan goals! In 2016, Niagara College improved its rating to Silver, further demonstrating an overall commitment to sustainability!
