Voluntary Reporting & Certifications
Niagara College participates in a number of voluntary environmental certifications and programs to support the goals, targets and actions outlines in the 2024-2029 Sustainability Plan. Below is a list, linked to more details.
The Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program, an international program administered by Audubon International, helps landowners like Niagara College preserve and enhance the environmental quality of the property. For more information about Niagara College’s certification please click here.
Bee City Canada is a program of Pollinator Project Canada. It focuses on inspiring organizations, cities, and schools to take action and protect pollinators. Niagara College has been a Bee City Campus since 2020 and requires annual reporting to maintain.
In 2024, Niagara College partnered with Ontario Nature to monitor the quantity and health of snake species located on the Daniel J. Patterson in Niagara-on-the-Lake, contributing to the province-wide long term snake monitoring protocol to fill in data gaps related to snake species in Ontario. All data collected is reported to Ontario Nature in conformance with the protocol requirements. Visit the Snake Monitoring webpage for more information on this project.
In 2022, the Niagara College Teaching Winery became a Sustainable Winegrowing Ontario (SWO) Certified Winery and Vineyard from the Ontario Craft Wineries and Grape Growers of Ontario, which is highlighted in this InsideNC article. The updated SWO Certified program now encompasses both vineyards and wineries, including winemaking facilities, to ensure the complete cycle of sustainable growth is considered. Annual reporting is required to maintain certification.
