June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada – an opportunity for Canadians from coast to coast to coast to learn about the unique cultures, traditions and experiences of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
In celebration of National Indigenous History Month, Niagara College’s Indigenous Education department will lead a host of events that honour Indigenous ways of knowing, doing and being.

Nokomis 215+ Moccasin Project with Shannon Cotter
Monday, June 26, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Student Wellness Lounge, Welland Campus
Join this one-of-a-kind workshop to learn how to make a pair of children’s moccasins with Shannon Cotter to honour the children who never made it home from residential schools. The finished moccasins will then become a part of the Nokomis Moccasin Project. Lunch will be provided.

Join us to see how Corn Soup is traditionally made at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in the Indigenous Garden with Karl Dockstader. Karl will be making his Corn Soup recipe in the Garden from sunrise to noon. Stop in to see the process and learn about what it takes to make Corn Soup. Be sure to stick around to enjoy a sampling of this delicious treat when it’s ready (around 12 p.m.)!
