The cold won’t stop the team of Niagara College Knight Walkers from gathering for good during the Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser.
On February 25, Hairstyling professor, Joe Abbruscato aims to have as many as 100 staff and students join the family-friendly walk to raise money for local charities.
This year’s fundraiser proceeds will go to Welland’s Open Arms Mission, a local foodbank that provides groceries, snacks, and personal care items to people in need.
Abbruscato, who has been organizing the College’s team since 2014, aims to raise $7,500 to help the homeless, hungry and hurting in the Niagara community.

“There’s a dire need to help those suffering in our community, and what better way to bring staff, students, and the community together than a good cause,” Abbruscato said. “Many of us are fortunate to have good jobs, families and somewhere to call home but there are several people in our community who don’t have access to these things. This is why we walk.”
As one the event sponsors, Niagara College is the host venue for the walk and will be providing complimentary refreshments throughout the evening.
The 5 km walk will kick off at 4 p.m. at the Niagara College Welland Campus, Athletic & Student Centre Entrance (100 Niagara College Blvd). Participants will also have the chance to enjoy a light meal after the walk during the event wrap up from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m.
