Third-year Broadcasting – Radio, Television and Film program students are winding up to broadcast live for 24 hours on the College’s radio station CNC The Heat from December 1 at 12:30 p.m. to December 2 at 12:30 p.m.
Four hosts – program director Elaura Clements, Amanda Moring, Ryan Williams and Uncle Jack – will broadcast for five hours each and compete to raise the most money for NCSAC’s Nourishing Minds Fund. All proceeds raised will help battle food insecurity on campus, and the program provides grocery gift cards to students who need them.
For the first time since the pandemic in which the radiothon was a 12-hour online event, students will host an in-person event at the Welland Campus and complete a full day of programming.
“I’m incredibly grateful to have the chance to give back to a student service that I’ve personally used,” said Clements. “Food security is something everyone deserves, especially around the holiday season. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the hustle and bustle of the season and forget to give back. Rock Around the Clock gives us all an opportunity to slow down and think about others and the struggles they face on a daily basis. Plus, we get to listen to some fun music and have a friendly little competition!”
What’s in it for the student host who raises the most funds? Clements says, “bragging rights forever.”
