Niagara College was included in Colleges Ontario’s College Voice February 2022 e-newsletter. The publication includes a note about the 2021 Minister’s Awards of Excellence, which recognized post-secondary faculty and staff who did exceptional work. NC’s award recipients including WAMIC Centre Manager Gord Maretzki, Research Program Manager Amal Driouich and College Brewmaster Jon Downing are mentioned in the piece.

Maretzki and Driouich were recognized by the Minister of Colleges and Universities for leading a team from the College’s Research & Innovation division who designed and produced face shields at NC’s Walker Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Centre during the onset of the pandemic. The team picked up a Minister’s award in the Everyday Heroes category for their efforts to respond to a critical need for PPE in the community. Downing was honoured with an Innovation and Entrepreneurship award for working with industry and business to drive economic development within the brewing industry.
