In this Niagara This Week article, Lindsay Smith writes about a group of NC Recreation Therapy students who are creating gift bags for residents living in local long-term care homes.
The article features Jessica De Freitas, a first-year student who spearheaded the initiative based on her experience working at a retirement home in Fort Erie. De Freitas is quoted in the article about her motivations for bringing cheer to the residents:
“I’m hoping it just puts a smile on their faces because right now, with COVID-19 … It’s very limited to how much family time you can have. They can’t leave for Christmas,” she said. “I’m really just hoping that it brings them some joy, especially being cooped up so long.”
