The fifth annual DSBN EcoSummit took place December 3rd 2014 at Club Roma in St. Catharines to celebrate the planet and the environment. This year’s theme focused on students’ Eco-Voyage to becoming more environmentally aware and engaged citizens. The day was broken down into various workshops highlighting waste management in the region, worms and bees, water, batteries, wetlands and environmental science careers.
The DSBN invited Niagara College to their EcoSummit this year to talk about environmental science careers and what skills are required to succeed as a young environmental professional. Furthermore, students were interested in learning about the various programs offered in the School of Environment and Horticultural Studies as options to enter the environmental field after high-school.
“Having a chance to participate in the Eco-Summit was a great experience to see how enthusiastic and passionate young children are about the environment. Engaging them when they are young and eager to make a difference in the classroom and in their communities can help extend their responsibility for environmental stewardship in their later years,” said Gina Pannunzio, Sustainability Engagement Assistant.
