ITS update: New options to make working at home a little easier

ITS is pleased to announce some additional options that should make remote working slightly easier for Niagara College faculty and staff.

Password aging extended

We have adjusted the password aging length from 90 days to 365 days. This will mean that no one should be asked to change their password for nine months or at least until we all return to campus. Once we return to campus, ITS will be implementing slightly longer and stronger passwords in order to stay compliant with our cyber security requirements. This was planned for implementation in June 2020, but will be adjusted as needed given the current situation. After that change is implemented, passwords may not need to be changed again except in exceptional circumstances or potentially yearly.

Free access to My Work Drives

All Ontario Colleges have been given free access to a product called My Work Drives. While we had been testing this as a potential solution to off campus access to the College N: and G: drives, the company made it available during the COVID-19 period for free, so we have decided to take advantage of it. The application allows easy browser-based access to the N: and G: drive basically the same as on campus access, except you do your work through a browser instead of File Explorer.

The link to this product is here – remotedrives.niagaracollege.ca. Documentation is available on the ITS Support site ITS.niagaracollege.ca. If you have any issues, please contact the IT Service Desk via email at [email protected]

The IT Service Desk would like to remind staff and faculty to enter a call back phone number on any IT tickets submitted. This will make for a quicker response.

Stay safe and thank you for continuing to practice safe computing.
