Mark your calendars – students in Niagara College’s Event Management program are in the midst of planning a series of events as part of the Many Hands Project. This annual project, now in its 23rd year, supports a local community non-profit organization with fundraising, marketing and public awareness of the agency. The recipient for 2020 is the Education Foundation of Niagara.
This year’s line-up of events ranges from enjoying good food at a burger festival, to a fun night with friends at a Las Vegas-themed night or pop-culture trivia. Funds raised will go towards the creation of student bursaries for District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) students looking to pursue post-secondary education at Niagara College. NC professor and Event Management program coordinator Christine Blane says that their fundraising goal is approximately $20,000, which will help alleviate the financial burden of education that many students face.
The Many Hands Project is just one example of how experiential learning is integrated into NC’s curriculum. For Event Management student Courtney Zahara, the hands-on learning component was a big draw in her decision to enroll in the program.
“Having the opportunity to organize real events is so valuable in my learning. Watching this project grow day-by-day and helping to bring people together within the community to support a great charity through our events is an extremely rewarding experience.”
There are three events that will take place throughout the end of March and beginning of April, with tickets now available for purchase.
