Kris Dubé with The St. Catharines Standard wrote about Welland native and NC alumnus Gilles Gervais (Law and Security Administration, 1984) who is retiring after more than three decades serving and protecting at Parliament Hill. Gervais will step down in late 2019, early 2020 from his role as assistant deputy sergeant-at-arms.
Gervais served as second in command to sergeant-at-arms Kevin Vickers. Four months into Gervais’ post, Vickers made national headlines when a gunman opened fire at Parliament Hill. Gervais was part of the team responsible for securing Parliament and ensuring that the nation’s leaders were kept safe, secure and out of the line of fire.
The piece includes other career milestones, including the time early in his career in which Gervais protected U.S. president Ronald Reagan.
Gervais and his wife Sue will continue to live in Ottawa in retirement and plan to return to Welland to visit their many nieces and nephews.
