To celebrate National Dental Hygienists Week, more than 50 senior students from the Dental Hygiene program organized a mini-carnival in the Applied Health Institute foyer at the Welland Campus on April 9.
The event was a celebration with games, prizes, popcorn and a large bake sale to raise awareness for those who need dental care.
The event saw a great turnout from NC staff and students. There were activities like face-painting, spin-the-wheel, scavenger hunt and mini-putt, along with a free oral cancer screening for the attendees.
Students organized a variety of activities and games, such as spin-the-wheel and the oral cancer screening booth, for the April 9 event.
Event proceeds will be donated to Quest Dental Clinic, a government-run dental clinic for those who cannot afford dental care. As a team, the NC Dental Hygiene students raised $365.
“The experience was fabulous. The students were excited to be able to share their knowledge of oral health and the dental hygiene profession,” said Alaina Gauthier, Professor – Dental Hygiene. “Our Oral Cancer Screening booth was a big hit, it allows us to discuss the importance of regular dental care with the community.”
