BPSN announced Niagara’s College’s Thumbs Down to Cancer volleyball games this Saturday, January 10 in honour of volleyball player Abbey Gooder who will be returning to the squad’s lineup for the first time since undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous thyroid.

In the article, Gooder highlights the significance of the event and the impact of community support.

“It’s important for fans to come out and support because all money raised this Saturday will be donated to the Walker Family Cancer Centre here in St. Catharines,” the 22-year-old St. Catharines native said of the games scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m. “Cancer SUCKS so every little bit of money donated helps in some way.”

“Volleyball is everything to me. I have been there for five years and I want to finish off my fifth year on a good note,” she said. “If I wasn’t able to play, I would be very upset and I am very glad I am able to play.”
