The Niagara College’s Institute for Global Education & Training team is collecting feminine hygiene products donations until August 12 to support NC’s partner institutions in Tanzania.
Please drop off tampon and pad product donations at the International Student Services Offices at both the Welland Campus and Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the Lake.
To make a monetary donation or for more details, please reach out to Esteban Navarro, Project Manager of Global Education Projects at [email protected].
The NC team will be travelling to Tanzania this month and will bring the donations with them. In Tanzania, the team will conduct gender mainstreaming activities with partners, including training and awareness workshops and mentoring, as part of the Empowerment through Skills Program (ESP-05).
Through ESP-05, Niagara College is partnering with Tanzanian institutions in Kondoa and Morogoro regions to provide alternative educational pathways to students and marginalized groups, especially women. Over the next three years, NC will be working with local partners to develop and deliver short-term courses that will meet both the needs of the female participants as well as those of the local community. This will help women in the addressed areas to gain skills for self-employment, become entrepreneurs and take on the opportunities of the workforce market.
Period Poverty
In rural Tanzania, the limited access to clean water supply, sanitation, and hygiene facilities makes menstrual health a critical issue impacting women and girls. To achieve feminine hygiene, women and girls need to be accessing and using effective and affordable menstrual materials and having supportive facilities and services, including water, sanitation and hygiene services, for washing the body and hands, changing menstrual materials, and cleaning and/or disposing of used materials.
As feminine hygiene products are expensive and access to clean water supply is limited, many young women drop their educational programs.
Period Poverty is a global concern as millions of women and girls worldwide cannot afford feminine hygiene products or access water and sanitation facilities to manage their menstrual health and hygiene. For more information about Period Poverty click here.
We thank you in advance for your support to our partners in Tanzania, as they continue to create safe, supportive and inclusive spaces on campus.
