Last year, 32 riders joined Team NC for the Big Move Cancer Ride and raised more than $16,000 for the Walker Family Cancer Centre.

It’s that time of year again: when NC gathers a cycling team for the Niagara Health Foundation’s Big Move Cancer Ride. The 16th annual fundraising event in support of the Walker Family Cancer Centre will take place Sunday, September 8.

NC’s Big Move team, along with hundreds of Niagara residents, will take off from White Meadows Farms on a 12-, 25-, 50- or 75-kilometre bike ride through scenic Pelham. All routes end back at White Meadows Farms, where riders and their families will enjoy a BBQ lunch, live music and ceremonies.

It’s the sixth year that Joanne Maltby, Manager, Global Customized Training & Consulting, and Mike Pasquale, Associate Director, Strategic Procurement, will lead NC’s team. They’re encouraging the NC community to join the team or donate to the cause to help them reach their fundraising goal of $5,000. Last year, 32 NC riders dressed in blue and white cycling jerseys raised more than $16,000.

“Whether it’s in celebration of a cancer survivor, in support of a cancer patient, or in memory of a loved one lost, riders and donors can take pride in knowing that every dollar raised goes to support local cancer care,” Maltby said.

This year, the NC Big Move Team will join a series of group rides leading up to the event organized by the Niagara Health Foundation specifically for Big Move Riders. The rides will take place on Thursdays at 5:45 p.m. departing from White Meadows Farm (2519 Effingham St., Pelham, ON L2R 6P7). Click here for updates on when rides will start.

Riders can also order an NC-branded, high-performance cycling jersey. Contact Pasquale ([email protected]) for sizing and pricing information. Shirt orders must be received by July 12.

Anyone can join NC’s Big Move team and all cycling levels are welcome. All participants are invited to join a Microsoft Teams group created to provide support through training and event updates and to encourage people to stay fit, have fun and fundraise, while generating NC team spirit and camaraderie. To be added to the group, email Maltby at [email protected].
