A message from Dr. Fay Lim-Lambie, Vice President, Academic:
I hope that you have had a successful start to term. This is my first September at Niagara College, and I am excited to be part of the kickoff to the new academic year. The past month has been filled with positive energy, and I am inspired by our shared commitment to academic excellence as I meet and engage with faculty, staff and students. It is an honour to serve as the Vice President, Academic and to work alongside our talented teams and college leadership to ensure that we provide the highest quality teaching and learning environment.
I am excited to share some of the key academic priorities that will guide our work this year. As President Kennedy has shared, the postsecondary landscape continues to change. Academic success and enrolment growth will be among our foremost priorities this year. As we work to grow our enrolments, it’s important to remember that student recruitment is only one part of the equation; student retention is equally important. More than ever, our collective focus must extend across the full student journey — from entry into programs through to successful transition, progression into upper levels and ultimately to graduation. Our goal is to see our graduates gainfully employed and driving economic growth in key sectors in the Niagara region and beyond. Work-integrated learning, applied education and attainment of employability skills remains central to the education we provide here at NC.
A second defining priority will be the launch and development of Niagara College’s Academic Plan which will be developed in parallel with a new Strategic Plan. The Academic Plan will build on our strengths and will connect to the College’s broader vision, ensuring that teaching, learning and student academic outcomes are aligned with institutional priorities. NC’s academic plan will serve as the roadmap to operationalizing academic priorities. Faculty and staff will have meaningful opportunities to engage and help shape this work. I am excited to hear your insights as we advance the future of teaching and learning at NC.
As the fall term progresses, we will continue building momentum toward our institutional College Quality Assurance Audit Process (CQAAP) audit scheduled for next Spring. More information about the audit and readiness activities will be shared in the coming weeks.
I look forward to working together to advance these priorities and help shape the academic future of our college and the students that we serve.
