Bruce Trail Conservancy Magazine featured research conducted by NC Ecosystem Restoration alumni, highlighting a year-long project focused on monitoring bat populations on the College’s Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
The article profiled alumni Maggie Annett and Topaz Goold, who expanded upon NC’s twelve-year bat monitoring program by studying the use of acoustic monitoring technology to detect and identify bat species in the area. Using specialized recording equipment installed along the Bruce Trail’s Wetland Ridge Side Trail, the project captured ultrasonic bat calls to help researchers better understand the presence and behaviour of local bat populations.
The article highlights NC’s commitment to applied environmental learning, providing students with hands-on experience in ecological monitoring while supporting research on endangered species and biodiversity in the region.
