Niagara College recently welcomed hundreds of grade 7 and 8 students from across the region to its annual Destination College event, an interactive initiative designed to help young learners explore future education opportunities and career pathways.

Hosted by NC’s Student Recruitment team in partnership with the School-College-Work Initiative (SCWI), the four-day event took place from May 25 to 28 across both NC campuses.

Approximately 400 students from the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) and the Niagara Catholic District School Board took part in a series of immersive workshops designed to give them a deeper understanding of college programs that can prepare them for careers in high-demand fields.

“Students today are being encouraged to think about their futures earlier than ever before,” said Dorita Pentesco, Vice President, Enrolment. “Destination College gives elementary school students a chance to discover their interests, explore new possibilities, and start imagining the paths available to them. Through hands-on learning and early exposure to post-secondary opportunities, we hope to spark curiosity, build confidence, and help students feel excited and prepared for the transition to high school and beyond.”

During the event, workshops in Acting, Electrical, Fitness, and NC Life sessions took place at the Welland Campus, and workshops focused on Culinary, Hospitality and Tourism, Environment, and Science in Action took place at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Destination College has become a valued annual tradition at Niagara College, giving young students the opportunity to discover their strengths, interests and future possibilities in a welcoming and supportive environment.
