Augusta Van Muyen, vineyard manager at Tawse Winery and a graduate of NC’s Winery and Viticulture Technician program (2010), was profiled by Niagara Now, where she discussed Canadian wines.
The profile also notes that Van Muyen is this year’s Grape King, a prestigious title dating back to 1956. Awarded annually by Grape Growers of Ontario, the honour recognizes excellence in vineyard work, with recipients serving as ambassadors for Ontario’s, and more broadly, Canada’s grape growers.
It also tocuhes on Van Muyen’s career journey, highlighting how she came to Niagara to study at NC’s then newly established Teaching Winery. At just 17, Van Muyen was initially too young to enrol, as students were required to be of legal age for wine-tasting classes. Instead, she began her studies at Brock, taking viticulture courses before eventually continuing her education at NC.
