Two outstanding Niagara College faculty members have been recognized with the Niagara College Student Administrative Council (NCSAC) Educator of the Year awards, celebrating their dedication, teaching excellence and impact on student learning.
The annual awards honour one full-time and one part-time educator based on student nominations, highlighting instructors who have meaningfully shaped students’ academic experiences and contributed to the #ncLIFE community.
This year’s recipients are part-time educator Kevin McGuinness from the School of Academic and Liberal Studies (Early Childhood Education) and full-time educator Gianluca Agostinelli from the School of Nursing.
Kevin McGuinness was recognized by students for his highly engaging and creative approach to teaching, which brings subject matter to life in memorable ways. Students described his classes as vivid and interactive, noting that he often goes beyond standard instruction to deepen understanding through hands-on and immersive learning experiences. His use of creative demonstrations and participatory activities helps students connect with complex concepts while generating curiosity and confidence in the classroom.
Students also highlighted McGuinness’ ability to thoughtfully communicate ideas and create a learning environment where participation and exploration are encouraged, making course content both accessible and engaging.
Gianluca Agostinelli was recognized for fostering a supportive and welcoming classroom environment that encourages student engagement and reflection. Students noted his ability to connect course material to current issues in the nursing field, helping learners better understand their future professional responsibilities and perspectives.
He was also praised for providing detailed and constructive feedback on assignments, which helped students improve their academic writing and critical thinking skills. His approach was described as both encouraging and insightful, supporting students’ growth as they prepare for careers in nursing.
The Educator of the Year awards have been presented annually by NCSAC since 2003, celebrating educators who go above and beyond in supporting student success. Each year, the awards are driven by student nominations, reflecting the strong connections formed between faculty and learners across Niagara College.
