On April 8, wearing pink is a simple but powerful gesture of kindness and solidarity with 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.
International Day of Pink is a global movement dedicated to standing against bullying, homophobia, and all forms of discrimination.
In honour of the day, students and employees are invited to a hybrid session from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Positive Space – Creating 2SLGBTQIA+ Inclusive and Affirming Environments.
Organized by Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and the Centre for Academic Excellence, the session offers participants an engaging and reflective introduction to gender and sexual diversity, drawing on key concepts such as terminology, pronouns, gender identity, and the impact of heteronormative and cisnormative assumptions.
The session encourages deeper understanding of lived experiences within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Participants will explore practical strategies for allyship, practice using inclusive language, and work through real world case studies to build confidence in addressing homophobia, transphobia, and misgendering.
Designed as a safe(r) space for learning and dialogue, the session empowers attendees to actively contribute to more inclusive, respectful, and affirming environments across their workplace and community.
This session will be delivered at the Welland Campus and virtually on Zoom. Please register for location and Zoom details: zoom.us/meeting/register/lV__0KJ8S4i7KTDI2Yz7sw
