As mid-term break quickly approaches, the Libraries and Learning Commons team is reminding students about its Workshop Series. This series is a collection of engaging sessions designed to help students build the essential skills needed for college success.
These short, focused workshops are free for all students and cover key study strategies, from effective time management to note-taking techniques that can make a meaningful impact on academic performance.
Workshops will be offered in the Libraries and Learning Commons at both the Welland Campus and the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Students are welcome to attend any session that aligns with their schedule and learning goals and are asked to register through the NC Engage app.
Below is a list of the upcoming sessions in March and April:
Time Management
Daniel J. Patterson Campus – March. 9 – 13 | Drop-in hours: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Welland Campus – March. 11 | 1:30 – 2 p.m.
Students can drop-in for a fast-paced, hands-on session to help them organize their time and stay on track this term.
Citation Styles and Academic Integrity
Daniel J. Patterson Campus – March. 18 | 1 – 1:30 p.m.
Welland Campus – March. 25 | 1:30 – 2 p.m.
This session will teach students how to avoid commons mistakes, use free tools to cite properly while staying on the right side of academic integrity.
Academic Writing
Daniel J. Patterson Campus – March. 23 – 27 | Drop-in hours: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Welland Campus – March. 25 | 1:30 – 2 p.m.
Students will learn how to develop strong arguments, support them with clear evidence, and connect their ideas effectively to create well-organized, coherent writing.
Presentation Skills
Daniel J. Patterson Campus – March. 30 – April.3 | Drop-in hours: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Welland Campus – April.1 | 1:30 – 2 p.m.
This practical session equips students with effective strategies to design impactful presentation slides, build speaking confidence, and engage their audience with clarity and connection.
Final Exam Study Strategies
Daniel J. Patterson Campus – April. 6 – 10 | Drop-in hours: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Welland Campus – April.8 | 1:30 – 2 p.m.
This short session is designed to help students strengthen their existing study skills by reviewing new strategies, creating a personalized exam planner and providing them with resources they can use right away.
