Niagara Now reported on the annual Seedy Saturday fundraiser, hosted by Thorold Garden Club in NC’s Teaching Greenhouse at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The event gathered community members to explore donated seeds, connect with approximately 50 vendors, and hear from gardening speakers.
The article showcased the Teaching Greenhouse, which has operated for 25 years producing hydroponic vegetables and student-grown crops.
Jennifer Laverty, Horticulture Technician at NC is quoted in the article: “This is a good way to introduce people to the fact that we always have crops growing year round and that the greenhouse is not just for students.”
The article also highlighted that students from the Horticulture, Landscape and Greenhouse programs led children’s drop-in activities. The article further noted that the College is developing one-time workshops and short seminars for community members seeking local gardening instruction without enrolling in a two-year program, with more options planned for children in winter.
