Fruit & Vegetable announced that Ecosystem Restoration students in the School of Environment and Horticulture at NC have partnered up with AgriSound, a company based in the U.K., to analyze pollinator activity in real-time.
The students are using AgriSound’s Polly bioacoustic monitoring technology, powered with AI, to track bumblebee activity to examine behaviour patterns through the seasons – without disrupting their ecosystem. Rather than capturing the specimens, the technology is able to identify pollinators based on their wingbeat frequencies. This project is scheduled to run until October 2026 and results from this study will be useful for restoration practices.
