On October 2, Maclean’s Education published a piece for prospective students weighing the choice between college or university.
One of Niagara College’s own recent Public Relations graduate certificate alum, Abbey Rivers (PR 2025), underscored how the one-year program took her from feeling unprepared for the workforce to full-time employment through “practical, job-specific skills” and an internship at a PR agency.
Just two weeks after graduating NC (and at only 23 years old) Rivers landed a position at a PR firm in Toronto, crediting the program’s focus on practical, job-specific skills for her swift transition into the workforce.
The feature underscores the value of pairing a university degree with a post-graduate college program to bridge the gap between education and employment.
“Rivers says her college program taught her more than how to do her job–it also taught her how to find work.”
