New 75,000 square foot addition will house more labs, classrooms and patient care spaces to support increased enrolments.

Niagara College is expanding to meet one of our community’s most important needs right now: graduating more frontline healthcare workers.

Beginning the week of August 11, construction starts on the new Applied Health Institute building expansion on the southeast corner of Woodlawn Road and First Avenue.

Initial work will include the removal of berms and vegetation on the site. Fencing will be placed along Woodlawn and sidewalk access will not be affected. Phase one of the project is scheduled to open in fall 2027.

This construction is contained to college property and any impact on neighbouring residents will be minimized.

This transformative project is a key strategic priority aimed at training more skilled healthcare professionals to help address urgent local and provincial needs. The expansion – 75,000 square feet of additional teaching labs, classrooms, and patient care spaces – will enhance NC’s ability to attract students and increase enrolment capacity in high-demand health programs, many of which currently have long wait lists.

The addition will feature new hub and community spaces that will strengthen community access via the delivery of accessible healthcare services through student-run clinics that address critical healthcare needs and provide more opportunities for experiential learning.

Stay tuned for more on the project following an official groundbreaking event in the fall.
