The Niagara Knights Cricket Team earned a strong second-place finish at the Ontario Colleges Recreation (OCR) Intercollegiate Cricket Tournament, held July 31 at the Jennie Florence Parker Sports Complex – Confederation Cricket Ground in Hamilton. The event was hosted by Mohawk College and featured teams representing Niagara College, Mohawk College, Seneca College and Humber College.

Despite a cloudy and windy start to the day, the weather held up, allowing for uninterrupted play and an exciting showcase of collegiate cricket. The preliminary round followed a T5 format, with each match consisting of five overs per side and scheduled back-to-back.
The NC Knights opened the tournament with a strong win against the host team, the Mohawk Mountaineers. Led by a standout performance from Navam Sharma, who was named Player of the Match, NC secured a convincing victory:

Humber Hawks – 30 runs (3.1 overs)
In the second match, the Knights faced the Humber Hawks, one of the tournament’s strongest contenders. Batting first, NC managed 29 runs for the loss of five wickets. However, Humber responded efficiently, reaching the target in just 3.1 overs with only one wicket lost.

Seneca – 40 runs (4.3 overs)
Mohawk – 39 runs (5 overs)
Seneca College also recorded a win during the round-robin, defeating Mohawk.
Championship Final
Humber Hawks – 120 runs (10 overs)
NC Knights – 72 runs (10 overs)
Thanks to a superior point differential, the NC Knights advanced to the championship final to face Humber once again. The final match was played in a T10 format, doubling the number of overs per team and offering a greater test of strategy and endurance.
In the final, the Humber Hawks scored 120 runs in their 10 overs. The Knights put up a strong effort with 72 runs but came up short.
Finishing second place, the NC Knights demonstrated resilience, sportsmanship, and competitive spirit throughout the day. Their performance stands as a testament to the growing presence of cricket within NC’s athletic programming and the team’s commitment to excellence on the field.
