It is with mixed emotions that I share the news that three members of the Enrolment Services team are participating in the Retirement Incentive Initiative, and will be starting new adventures at the end of June.
Mary Papp is retiring from the financial aid team as a financial aid associate after 24+ years of service at the College. During her time at NC Mary also worked in roles in Finance and International. She is highly respected for her team approach and work ethic, supporting students with a calm voice and reassuring presence. We wish her all the best in the future which will include spending more time with family and friends, cheering on the Boston Bruins, spending days by the pool, and continuing to run the staff Super Bowl draw.
Lucy Sousa is retiring from her position as a scheduling officer after 31 years at NC. Lucy started in Career Services before moving on to roles in the Niagara College Innovation Centre, Continuing Education, Facilities Management, and the School of Nursing and PSW studies, before joining Enrolment Services in 2022. Lucy is looking forward to staying active playing many sports, riding her bike, and kayaking, as well as staying engaged in education working part-time for the Niagara Catholic District school board.
Last but definitely not least, Tina Matson’s last day is also June 30. Her career started in the Registrar’s Office, first in Financial Aid, then Admissions, and then as a Business Analyst, before a short stint at Fleming College to gain administrative experience. NC was always home though, and she returned to her BA role where she earned an Award of Excellence in the support staff category. As the college grew and we expanded our team, Tina was the natural choice to lead the Admissions and DJP Enrolment Services team as Director, where she has thrived for the past 7 years.
There are too many nice things to say about Tina to capture in a single message. Those who know her will attest to her incredible work ethic, her passion for helping others (students and colleagues alike), and her positive attitude that raises the energy of those around her. Simply put she is pleasure to work with, fun to be around, and we will miss her greatly.
With Tina’s departure there was an opportunity to revisit the leadership team structure in Enrolment Services. I am very pleased to announce that Nadia Gelata has accepted a one-year secondment to the new Manager of Admissions role in the department. I know many of you have previously worked with Nadia, and this news will come as no surprise as she has been demonstrating great leadership skills and abilities for quite some time. Nadia will be overseeing the admissions team and report directly to me, with Josh supporting the front line and records teams at both campuses during the period of secondment. I will be spending more time at DJP campus to support Nadia, Josh, and the DJP team as we adjust to Tina’s departure.
Please join me in congratulating Mary, Lucy and Tina on their retirements, and congratulating Nadia on her new role.
Enrolment Services will be hosting drop ins for colleagues to share best wishes. We will have a gathering 1:30-3:30 p.m. Tuesday June 17 at our office located in the Daniel J. Patterson Campus for Tina; Monday June 23 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the Welland office for Lucy; and Tuesday June 24 from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in Welland for Mary.
