Originally from Nigeria, Rosary Agbonmerele Asazobor is graduating from NC’s Personal Support Worker (PSW) program with pride. Convocation marks a major milestone in her personal and academic journey, one shaped by strength, determination and resilience while she balanced school, work, and caring for her family. With the support of her family and the guidance of her professors, Rosary is proud to celebrate how far she’s come and excited for what lies ahead in her new career.
Q&A with Rosary Agbonmerele Asazobor:
How do you feel about your upcoming convocation day? What does it personally mean to you?
I feel incredibly happy and strong. My convocation day reminds me of my journey in Canada–the hurdles I overcame while balancing family and school. Kudos to my husband, who was a strong support throughout, and thankfully, it all turned out to be a success. This moment reassures me that you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
What interests you in/why are you passionate about your field of study?
I knew this program would challenge me and help me grow both personally and professionally.
How did you find your program experience–any highlights?
It was exciting and fun, especially Prof. Cousineau’s classes! Her teaching made learning enjoyable, and we also played Kahoot, which added an extra layer of fun to the experience.
What did you find rewarding about your program and area of study? Does something stand out to you that you will never forget about your time at NC?
The most rewarding aspects of my time at NC were the team assignments, friendships, and wellness meetings. These experiences made my academic journey both enjoyable and memorable.
Did you face and overcome any challenges to graduate?
Graduating was quite challenging for me. I had to juggle my studies with a job and a large family, including young children. It was very hard, but I learned to study through the night and sometimes at school to manage everything. My spouse was extremely supportive, which made a huge difference
Did you work a placement or co-op as part of your program?
Yes, it gave me an opportunity to gain hands-on experience, which prepared me for the reality while working on the job.
Do you feel your NC experience has helped prepare you for the future?
Yes, every challenge and victory made me who I am today. Every time I felt stuck, it pushed me to keep going and taught me that nothing is unachievable.
I really want to thank Prof. Cousineau, Prof. Powell, and Prof. Crick for being impactful on my educational journey. They taught me resilience and encouraged me every step of the way.
