The three Niagara dailies (Niagara Falls Review, St. Catharines Standard, and Welland Tribune) published a feature on this year’s convocation ceremonies across the region, including Niagara College’s Spring 2025 Convocation held June 9 to 13.

The article highlights Niagara College’s recognition of two outstanding community members with honorary awards. John Scott, a longtime leader in Canada’s grocery industry, former chair of the College’s Board of Governors, and past CEO of the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers, will be presented with an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration during the Saturday morning ceremony. Rochelle Bush, a respected historian, educator and advocate for Black history in Canada, received the Distinguished Alumni Award during Monday afternoon’s ceremony.

The College’s Governor General’s Academic Medal recipients were also acknowledged for achieving the highest overall averages in their respective programs. Abigail Tuckwell earned the top GPA among degree graduates, with a 95 per cent average in the Honours Bachelor of Business Administration – Hospitality program. Kane Jennings achieved a 97.83 per cent average in the Acting for Film and Digital Media program, the highest among diploma graduates. Both students will receive their awards during their respective convocation ceremonies.

President Sean Kennedy’s convocation address was also included in the article: “Convocation is a milestone that marks the hard work, dedication and resilience of our students. We are incredibly proud of our graduates and honoured to celebrate their accomplishments and bright futures ahead.”
