Two outstanding Niagara College faculty members have been honoured with Educator of the Year awards by the Niagara College Student Administrative Council (NCSAC), in recognition of their dedication and impact on student learning.
Full-time professor Patti Wallington, from the School of Hospitality and Tourism, and part-time professor Rena Posteraro, from the School of Business and Management, were announced as the 2024-2025 recipients during NCSAC’s annual Night of Excellence event on April 9.

The Educator of the Year awards are based on student nominations and have been presented annually by NCSAC since 2003 to one full-time and one part-time educator who have made significant contributions to students’ educational journeys and #ncLIFE. This year, over 340 nominations were submitted by students.
“I consider this award one of my career highlights,” said Professor Wallington. “Given that it comes from students, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for receiving it.”
Wallington was recognized for her commitment to student success and for creating an engaging, supportive learning environment. Known for her ability to break down complex topics and connect with students through patience, creativity, and care, Wallington has left a lasting impact on those she teaches.
“Teaching college students is more than just a profession; it is a deeply rewarding honour and privilege,” she said. “Having the opportunity to shape young minds, ignite their curiosity and empower them to pursue their passions is a responsibility that I approach with humility and excitement.”

Posteraro was praised by students for her approachable teaching style and for explaining course content in clear, relatable ways that every student couldn’t understand. She was also recognized for encouraging students to do their best, offering meaningful support throughout their learning, and for the warmth and inclusivity she brings to the classroom and on campus.
“I am truly honoured to have been nominated and selected by my Business Management students for the part-time Educator Award,” said Posteraro. “It is a pleasure to be part of the teaching and learning journey and celebrate students’ success.”
