NC celebrating Co-op and WIL Month this March

March is National Co-op and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Month and Niagara College’s Academic Advising and Career Services team is hosting events and activities for students throughout the month to promote the services available to them all year long.

Led by Co-operative Education and Work-Integrated learning Canada (CEWIL), National Co-op and WIL Month aims to promote awareness of co-op and work-integrated learning programs across Canada from March 1 to 31, including its National Day of WIL on Mar.26.

This March, NC’s Academic Advising and Career Services department is hosting a wide array of activities and initiatives to help students make the most of their services before they enter the workforce. These services include:

  • Resume support and review.
  • Access to job postings for co-op, summer employment and graduate opportunities.
  • Interview assistance.
  • Networking support.
  • Career exploration.
  • Access to Career Consultants.

Students can follow Academic Advising and Career Services on Instagram @nc_advisingandcareerservices, where promotions for Co-op and WIL month, as well as tips for career success, will be shared throughout the month.

NC Co-op and WIL Month activities

College to Career

New this year, College to Career is in-person and virtual programming created for students who will be graduating in the spring. Workshops include:

  • Resume and cover letter writing: preparing your application documents for job searching upon graduation.
  • Interview skills: learning how to sell your biggest asset – you!
  • Strategies for job searching as a new grad – learning to utilize tools like LinkedIn.

Dates and times for these workshops can be found on NC’s MyCareer Portal’s Career Events page.

Students can access MyCareer by logging into their NC Portal, clicking on “More Applications,” then “All,” then scrolling down to select the MyCareer icon.

Career Chats – Stirring up your Future

Advising and Career Services is inviting all NC students preparing to graduate to join them for hot chocolate and career support.

Taking place at the Daniel. J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake in room W115 on Mar. 19 and 20, and at the Welland Campus in room SE101 on Mar. 18,19 and 20 from 11 a.m. to 1p.m.

Career Consultants will be available to discuss future career plans while providing valuable resources to students.

Student’s who drop-in will be entered into a draw for a $40 e-gift card.

Career Coaches

Throughout the month of March, Career Coaches will be available for drop-in appointments at both the Welland Campus and the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Career Coaches can help students with everything from creating impactful resumes and cover-letters, to one-on-one interview advice and networking tips.

See drop-in hours below:

DJP Campus (located outside of the cafeteria): March 4,5,12,13,18 and 19 from 11 a.m. to 3p.m.

Welland Campus (Room SE 101): Mondays, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., Tuesdays, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

These drop-in hours are in addition to their regular availability each day. Students can drop in to SE 101 or W 115, no appointment required.

Co-op and WIL Day

In recognition of Co-op and WIL Day on Mar. 26, NC’s Academic Advising and Career Services team will be hosting drop-in events at both campuses where students can learn all about the great services available to them.

The Welland Campus event will take place in SE101 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature carnival-themed games and snacks.

The DJP Campus event is being held in W115 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is themed for St. Patrick’s Day.

Throughout the year, NC’s Career and Co-op Services department offers students a full suite of employment services, including job search resources and coaching, resume and cover letter reviews, interview practice, and workshops. The department also helps connect employers with students seeking part-time, seasonal, or co-op work experiences, or new graduates seeking employment.

Students can view the comprehensive services available to them by logging into the MyCareer Portal.

Appointments can also be booked with a Career Consultant or Co-op Career Consultant to help students navigate employment and co-op opportunities to lead them to successful work experiences.
